Our Story
Singer/Songwriter Kristin Gordon founded Resonate Choral Arts in 2014 with the goal of combining choral music with a variety of visual and audio art forms. The group sang with indie band Y La Bamba, collaborated on a musical with Broken Planetarium about the fall of the Berlin Wall, and performed in benefit concerts.
Rehearsals were brought to a halt in March 2020 due to the global pandemic, putting the future of the group in jeopardy. The choir soldiered on with virtual rehearsals and projects with local songwriters, but in 2023, we were faced with the reality of dwindling resources. “I thought Resonate was dead at that point, I was telling people we just didn’t have the funding to continue,” said Gordon. “And then $5,000 showed up in the mail.” The anonymous donation reignited their mission, and Resonate triumphantly returned to the stage in March 2024 with Homemade Jams, joining forces with 10 local songwriters.
The group then worked on Songs of the Sphere, a collaborative project designed to immerse the audience in a multi-sensory experience through Gordon's nature-inspired songs and a series of 40 art pieces created by artist Beth Lorio. Each musical piece and its corresponding artwork represents an element of the natural world, inviting listeners into a deeper connection with the environment that sustains us.
Throughout the decade of its existence, Resonate has provided Portland singers with an inclusive, welcoming environment that builds a sense of belonging and inspires passion and growth. By connecting with the wider creative community, Resonate offers dynamic concerts that wow audiences.
